A revolution is…
Mozzie Cozzie - a clothing revolution.
Last week we were invited to attend an Innovation Debrief 2025–2026 - presenting 50 innovations across diverse industry sectors.
This was hosted by our friends at The Future Laboratory who run a trends intelligence platform called LS:N Global.
After the session, our question was put to Ember - an AI research tool The Future Laboratory have co- created and we are pleased to be able to share the results with you.
Our question was:
"How do you define a revolution in clothing?"
"A revolution in clothing typically refers to significant and transformative changes in the fashion industry that shift how clothing is designed, produced, consumed, and perceived. It often encompasses advancements in technology, sustainability, consumer behaviour, and cultural trends. Here are key elements often associated with a clothing revolution:
Technological Innovation: Incorporating advanced technologies such as digital fashion and smart textiles. For example, Malou Beemer's integration of LED circuits into clothing allows wearers to adjust colours and patterns, indicating a move towards garments that adapt to practical and social needs Convertible Clothing Market.
Sustainability Practices: Adopting practices that minimize environmental impact, such as circular fashion and the use of sustainable materials. The emergence of platforms like Rixo Pre-Loved supports circular fashion by allowing consumers to buy and sell second-hand items, which encourages sustainability and prolongs garment lifespan Rixo launches pre-loved resale platform.
Consumer-Driven Changes: Recognizing shifts in consumer preferences towards long-lasting and adaptable garments. The shift away from fast fashion towards more durable and versatile clothing items reflects a significant change in consumer valuation of clothing attributes Fast fashion may suffer from a consumer about-turn on throwaway style.
Cultural and Social Influences: Responding to broader cultural and social movements. Digital fashion serves as an alternative way to engage with fashion, offering consumers the choice and potentially reducing the fashion's environmental footprint, aligning with cultural movements focused on sustainability and consumer choice How circular retail could create new cashless economies.
These elements combined indicate a broader trend towards innovation and sustainability in fashion, suggesting a revolution that changes not only how clothing is made and marketed but also how it fits into the wider cultural and environmental landscape."
